The Weight is the enemy people are arguing about. It cannot be killed, it appears in the late-game sections, and being caught ends the attempt. Whether those sections are tense or exhausting is now the game’s most disputed design question, and the developer has already responded to it.

What The Weight is

It is an unkillable pursuer that hunts you through specific sections rather than roaming the whole map. The game gives you an IV Bag revive item, which tells you the designers expected players to be caught.

That combination is the source of the argument. A revive system implies mistakes are survivable, while an enemy that camps your hiding spot can turn one mistake into a loop.

What players report

The complaints cluster into three shapes, all visible in the discussion around the game.

  • Being caught near your hiding place. The enemy is reported to linger beside the spot you are using, so leaving becomes the hard part.
  • A revive that does not help. Players describe reviving with the IV Bag and immediately being caught again at the same location.
  • Detection that is hard to read. It is not always clear what gave your position away, which makes the failure feel arbitrary rather than earned.

A review with more than 900 upvotes puts it memorably: the author expected psychological horror and got a test of how long a person will crouch behind a wall.

That is the honest summary of the disagreement. Some players read the same design as deliberate tension.

What the developer has said

On 30 September the developer acknowledged the frustration publicly and said gameplay balancing is on the way. Media covering the statement report that the planned changes target the enemy’s behaviour and the readability of the encounters.

One correction worth making, because it circulates widely: this response came from the studio’s own social post and was reported by the press. It is not one of the notices published on the Steam news feed, which is where the patch notes live.

What is confirmed to work

The combat and stealth guide covers the confirmed toolkit: hiding, distractions, peeking and CRTV scouting. Those tools work on the current build, and the CRTV is the only way to read a room before committing to it.

What is not published is a verified route through each pursuit section. This page does not print one, because inventing it would send you into the same loop the complaints describe.

What is still unanswered

No date has been given for the balance patch. The official patch notes released on the same day cover shader precompilation stutter and nothing about the enemy.

FAQ

Can The Weight be killed? No. Everything reported describes it as unkillable by design.

Should I use the IV Bag when caught? It revives you, and players report the enemy can be waiting where you died.

Is a fix confirmed? The developer said balancing is coming. No date has been announced.

What Patch 1.4.0 changed (8 October 2026)

Konami’s Patch 1.4.0, released 8 October 2026, reworked the pursuit sections directly. The changes recorded for The Weight itself:

  • Grab attacks now deal heavy damage instead of killing instantly on Story Mode and Normal.
  • Searching behaviour improved so The Weight no longer camps in front of your objective for long stretches, and no longer repeatedly searches the same spot.
  • Hunting behaviour improved so it no longer tracks you as aggressively.

The same patch also softened enemies overall: reduced sensitivity to firearm noise, to running and to entering hiding spaces; fewer counterattacks after your melee hits; no grapple attempts while you are actively blocking with a melee weapon (The Weight is the exception); and more reaction time after escaping a grapple.

Check the version number in the lower-right corner of the main menu. Patch 1.4.0 shows as v1.5.154194. An older number means you are still on the build players complained about.
