The short definition

SILENT HILL: Townfall is a new full-length psychological survival horror game developed by Screen Burn Interactive and co-published by KONAMI and Annapurna Interactive. It is not a remake of an older entry and is not a sequel to Silent Hill 2.

The story is self-contained, so newcomers can follow Simon Ordell’s journey without studying an earlier plot. Existing fans will recognize themes of guilt, uncertainty, isolation and a town that reflects psychological conflict.

Setting and premise

Townfall takes place in 1996 on St. Amelia, a fictional island off Scotland. Simon is called back to “put things right” but does not recognize the town or understand his relationship with its residents. A voice from a portable television—the CRTV—draws him deeper into the fog.

Screen Burn chose Scotland because the team knows its landscapes, weather and coastal settlements. The developers photographed real coastal towns to create a place with accumulated history rather than a generic horror backdrop.

What the player does

  • Explore St. Amelia entirely in first person.
  • Tune the CRTV to detect threats, receive transmissions and find puzzle clues.
  • Solve narrative-driven environmental problems.
  • Use stealth, peeking, hiding and distractions to avoid creatures.
  • Fight with limited melee and ranged weapons when necessary.
  • Reach an ending determined by actions across the playthrough.

The first-person camera is not a separate mode. The CRTV, close-up interactions and combat were designed around it.

Is it a spin-off or main game?

Media frequently call Townfall a spin-off because it has a new setting, studio and protagonist. Official descriptions emphasize “full-length” and “self-contained” rather than assigning a numbered-series status. The precise label matters less than the confirmed point: it is a complete new game, not a small demo or remake.
